Thanks to funding from Medr, Aberystwyth University can allow eligible learners to study their short courses free of charge. These new courses, starting in March, April and May 2026 are now available to book.

Leaners must be living in Wales and must also meet at least one of the following conditions:

  1. the learner, or the learnerโ€™s family, is in receipt of Universal Credit or its predecessors; Jobseekerโ€™s Allowance; Employment and Support Allowance
  1. the learner is in receipt of Carers allowance or carerโ€™s credit; Disability premium or other disability-related financial support; Bereavement benefits
  1. the learner is from a group which is considered to be under-represented in higher education, such as:
  • care leavers or care experienced learners
  • learners with caring responsibilities including unpaid carers
  • learners with disabilities
  • learners from ethnic minority backgrounds
  • LGBTQ+ learners
  • refugees and asylum seekers
  • those studying through the medium of Welsh
  • leaners of all ages from areas in the bottom two quintiles of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2019

As you can see, the eligibility criteria is wide, allowing access to many groups. The only evidence required is proof of an address within Wales.

These courses are open to everybody and most do not require any previous experience or qualifications.
